You’re speaking my language here Richard! From my experience “shyness” might be better described as “discernment“ and specifically of “am I safe here?”
Plus as you point out, some of us are designed to think more slowly, and this isn’t always valued or respected in our western culture.
Anything we can do as facilitators to support inclusion should be celebrated!
Totally agree :) Some of our best developers are "shy" and don't contribute freely in open discussions but give them time to think they provide insights the fast thinkers rarely manage.
You’ll have come across Time to Think I’m guessing, by Nancy Kline? I trained to facilitate in this way specifically because of that, how do we allow the deeper thinkers time to think! It’s mind blowing stuff.
